A marginalized Badi Pastor’s Transformation in Christ
Pastor Dar’s Story
Dar serves among his Badi people, a marginalized Nepali tribe.
He is the only pastor among his people in the village.
Dar comes from a Hindu background, where he once performed many rituals and even persecuted believers. In his community, many Hindus view converts to Christianity as belonging to a lower caste, so he never considered learning about Christ. Dar lived a life of indulgence, drinking heavily, smoking, and using various drugs. He believed Hinduism was the best religion in the world.
The Badi people are considered one of the lowest castes in Nepal, often marginalized and discriminated against in society. Traditionally, they have faced immense social and economic challenges, with limited opportunities for education or employment, and many are forced into labor-intensive or exploitative work. Their community’s struggles with poverty and stigma make it difficult for them to advance in society.
Dar’s own struggles took a toll on his health. Years of alcohol and smoking led to severe stomach pain. Despite numerous hospital visits and medications, the pain remained, leaving Badi hopeless. Then one day, a friend encouraged him to trust in Jesus, explaining that through faith in Christ, his suffering could be relieved. Dar’s wife, already a follower of Jesus, had been praying for him throughout this time.
With no other options, Dar began to consider Jesus and asked his friend for a Bible. As he read God's word, he began to believe in Jesus as his personal Savior. Miraculously, his stomach aches were healed. From that moment on, Badi made a firm commitment to follow Christ for the rest of his life.
After graduating from Bible college, Badi started serving the Lord in the Badi community of K****. He now leads the community as their pastor and is the only one in the village.
